Any higher than 4.2v and you significantly increase the risk of a battery bursting into flames.

Any lower than 3.2v and the battery may be permanently damaged. The usable voltage range for a standard lipo battery cell is 3.2v to 4.2v. This is also why it is important to charge or discharge your batteries back to storage voltage shortly after using them. Any more or less energy in the cell will cause the battery to slowly degrade and lose efficiency. The reason for this is that a lipo battery is most stable at that voltage. (Don't worry if you are unfamiliar with battery cells, we will get more into that later). Storage voltage is where each cell is charged to approximately 3.8 volts. This partial charge is called the Storage Voltage. When you get a new lipo battery it will already come partially charged. That way you will know when it is time to land and keep your batteries healthy. If you drain too much energy out of a lipo battery or put too much in, you will permanently damage it or potentially cause a fire, which is why it is very important to keep an eye on the energy left in your battery as you fly. Change the charger to the NiMH program. The first thing you need to know about lipo batteries is that they are not like other batteries you may be familiar with. No balance cord for the first steps even if you are used to balance-charge the LiPo.ġ. Power up the charger and plug in the battery’s power plug. Don’t leave the battery to long in the charger when doing the trick below. So be careful and don’t leave the charger when doing the step below. CHARGING LIPO BATTERY UNDER NIMH/ NICD BATTERY PROGRAM WILL CAUSE FIRE.

Keep in mind that the instruction manual says:īEFORE YOU BEGIN CHARGING YOUR BATTERY, MAKE SURE YOU ARE CHARGING NIMH/NICD BATTERIES. Update: I have also learned that CELL ERROR comes up when you try to charge a 4s LiPo with one broken balance lead that makes the charger see only 3s but knows you want to charge 4s and for safety, it gives you cell error. It doesn’t say what the single error message CELL ERROR actually means… After reading about it online and checking the cells I guess was related to one of the cells had low voltage.

  • CELL ERROR VOLTAGE-INVALID – Voltage of one cell in the battery pack is invalid.
  • CELL ERROR HIGH VOLTAGE – Voltage of one cell in the battery pack is too high.
  • CELL ERROR LOW VOLTAGE – Voltage of one cell in the battery pack is too low.

A challenge when reading the instruction manual is that it says you can get three Cell Error messages: It is the battery that causes the problem. I have a SkyRC charger (SkyRC e660) but you can get this error message on other chargers as well. I can’t guarantee that the same solution will work for you, but it is worth a shot.

I tried several solutions and read about troubleshooting without much success after watching YouTube videos. I recently got the famous Cell Error message when trying to balance charging one of LiPo (Lithium Polymer) batteries for one of my quad drones.
